The GSL-Visión Magazine no. 7 Editorial – Life with a Lightness of Being

Finally, this month a special digital edition of the Visión magazine was published on Issuu.com. It was a difficult issue to produce during the lockdown working predominately isolated, and when necessary via video conferencing platforms. The magazine will not be printed this year.

The GSL-Visión Magazine no. 7

Editorial – Life with a Lightness of Being

Just as we started to put together this issue of the magazine, Covid-19 struck and I had to re-evaluate what that really meant, considering we were ultimately banned from simply walking freely outdoors. The freedom to be out was taken away from us all! Ironic isn’t it? After only six weeks on lockdown, people were upset about staying indoors, not allowed to publicly express themselves, which comes naturally. Let’s think about that for a minute, because as social beings, in terms of community when we celebrate, protest, or when in crisis, we come together.

As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, I’ve had to refine this years’ theme, living life in Sitges with a lightness of being (in other words, living life unburdened of stigma, stereotype and social pressures for being ourselves). I looked for inspiration from the GSL objectives for this year—the start of the decade—and it was plain to see that we plan to make progress with optimism, equality and good health being central to our cause.

Today we are enthusiastic to say GSL has become more inclusive in its volunteers and membership, and has restructured its leadership for an even brighter future. The association continues to encourage and facilitate living and loving openly, wider acceptance of sexualities, and proudly enjoying good quality of life, which are hallmarks of living in Sitges, something we should all have. And you’ll see this in our increased number of annual events and activity across our social media platforms.

Every year we highlight the good and bad events in the LGTBI+ world which have occurred over the previous twelve months. This year we focus on staying safe, and primarily, moving forward into the 2020s.

All Inclusive, All Together

Every year we highlight the good and bad events in the LGTBI+ world, which have occurred over the previous twelve months. This year we focus on staying safe, and primarily, moving forward in the 2020s.

Cheyenne

A Sitges Sensation

A Sitges Sensation...

"EQUALITY: A Circus for All"

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown doom and gloom and phases of reopening, we’ve been fortunate to have a small group of extraordinary acrobats come to Sitges and administer their sensual remedy.

Milano, Miguel, Stephane and Nico
Sitges, August 2020

The show is a welcomed diversion, an antidote from our ailing minds and world, if only for an hour of delight and entertainment. Their performances, all at once sexy, thrilling, and dangerous—takes place in the open-air schoolyard of Escola Pia de Sitges every week, Thursday through Sunday at 21.30, until the thirtieth of August.

Gay Sitges Guide

The schoolyard is the perfect open-air venue for the times. For the public, it is the central location, perfect temperature, safe social distancing, and occasion to enjoy a show. For them, the ability to tailor-make the seating of its venue to suit the crowd, whether it accommodates forty or seventy people.

Les Farfadais is the name of the group founded by Stéphane Haffner with his brother Alexandre on the streets of Paris back in 1998. The group had evolved into a company of 50 artists until the pandemic decimated the cruise line industry, which is predominately where the shows are performed. No longer afloat, they’ve had to leave the high seas.

At the helm of the EQUALITY show in Sitges, Stéphane navigates the streets of Sitges with his costumed cohorts Miguel, Nico, Milano, Kyle, and the lovely Emma tirelessly marketing the show; distributing flyers off-acrobatic duty, and remarkably after each performance!

Quite touching and heartfelt is the public address at the end of each show when Stephane explains how they have had to survive in these hard times—the inspiration for this circus for all.

Note:
September 2020 -- The run of the show has been extended to the end of September!
To Stephane and the troupe, THANK YOU for sharing your talents with us over this challenging time.
We hope you've enjoyed your time in Sitges.

Verano Gris

The days are once again as blue as only a Sitges sky could be. But looking closely beyond the joys of roaming outside of our four walls, there’s a reality present along our streets and in our minds. There’s nothing definitive, black or white. No clear season, just a grey summer...
